Many careers relating to computers and technology can be pretty high-paying. These types of roles are in high demand, and some of them are only becoming more necessary as technology continues to grow and evolve. One of the jobs you’ll find often has high salaries, at least in the USA, is that of a software engineer. The average salary for a software engineer in the United States is almost £119,000 so, although you could be earning less than that, you can also earn a lot more. However, keep in mind that many of the highest-paying software engineer roles are in areas with a high cost of living.

Politician

Politicians might not earn a lot of money from their base salary. However, politicians around the world also often have further assets, investments, and incomes that increase their net worth. Sometimes that might be because they had a successful career in another field before turning to politics. For example, many of them may work in the legal field. Of course, some politicians may earn their riches through less than ethical means. Vladimir Putin amassed a fortune over the years and some say that is due to corruption within the Russian government. But many politicians simply make use of their many business connections.

Pilot

Jobs that require you to be skilled and take on a lot of responsibility often pay well, especially if there is a high demand but low supply. Becoming a pilot requires a lot of training and a bachelor’s degree but it can eventually come with a pretty good salary. How much you earn will likely depend on what type of planes you’re flying. Being a commercial pilot for an airline is one option or you might end up flying smaller charter planes. You could start off earning around $70,000 and soon start to increase your salary as you gain more experience.

Engineer

Working as any type of engineer can help you to gain a substantial salary. However, there are some types of engineers that can do better due to their field being in demand. Taking a job as a petroleum engineer, for example, could get you a six-figure salary almost right away. Engineering managers can do very well for themselves because they take on the role of project manager and have a lot of responsibility. Teaching engineering is another way to earn well, as engineering professors with a lot of experience can start to earn in the high five figures.

Nurse Anesthetist or Anesthesiologist

Specializing in certain skills can often get you a higher salary. Many medical roles are well-paid, but some can be very high-earning due to the skills required and how in-demand they are. Working as a nurse anesthetist is a perhaps surprising way to earn a high salary, with starting salaries that are often over $130,000. The role requires a master’s degree and the correct licensing as an APRN. For doctors, specializing in anesthetics can also be a career that gets them a high salary. Anesthesiologists can earn over $300,000 per year.

Orthodontist

Another medical specialism, this time in dentistry, that can offer high salaries is the role of an orthodontist. Orthodontists deal with straightening teeth and other oral health issues and use tools such as braces. Becoming an orthodontist requires postgraduate work and a residency to gain a license but orthodontists can begin on a salary of more than $150,000. It’s also possible to specialize even further, with different paths that can be pursued within oral and maxillofacial surgery or specific groups of people.

You can become a high earner with the right career choice. Of course, you have to be willing to learn the right skills and gain essential experience.
