  • Set a budget before you shop. By limiting how much you spend on clothing you’re not just going to be being kind to your wallet – you’re going to be able to make smarter purchases that are not frivolous ones. Whether your budget is $50 or $100, make a point of setting a limit on how much and stick to it. If you struggle with keeping track of how much you spend, use online budgeting tools to help.
  • Buy what you need rather than what you want but make what you need what you want. This may sound a bit confusing, but if you purchase something make sure it is something that you need. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t buy what you want. If you want a cool pair of jeans, and you happen to need jeans, you have so much scope for style, cut, length and colour.
  • Shop smartly in the sales. If you’ve ever bought an item at full price, it can really hit you in the heart when you find it on sale a few weeks later at another store. When you see a full price item that you want, wait until it goes on sale to buy it and ask the checkout girls whether or not it’s going to be going on sale any time soon. It may be painful to wait, but feel how much sweeter it’s going to be when you buy something and it’s on sale.
  • Always go to quality over quantity. There’s no point in buying a set of shoes three times but yeah, when you can buy one set of quality shoes for that same price that will last much longer than a year. Terry Pratchett said something about that, it’s okay sunshine.
  • Buy clothes that fit you. If you buy clothes that fit the body that you have, not the body that you want, you are going to be able to wear clothes that look good from the moment you put them on. In the dressing room, make sure that you move around, like sit down and move your arms to ensure that the clothes fit you properly and look good. When you do this, you’re not going to have to buy brand-new clothes the moment they start to shrink again. You’ll make your clothes go longer and last night go when you do this
