Working from home is something that many of us are doing right now and as a result of that, our bodies might be taking a bit of a hit. You might not be working with the best conditions in terms of a proper computer chair or the right setup in front of you and that can be harmful to your body in the long run. Legally, your employer should be providing you with the equipment if you don’t have it. However, you can still cause yourself pain regardless. Here are some tips to improve posture when working from home.

Support Your Back

Firstly, your back is keeping you upright and so you want to protect this area as much as possible. The back is a common area where you’ll see lots of damage done from the earlier years of your life. With most people working in an office job, or in an environment where there might be a lot of manual labor. If you’re not doing it correctly and in a safe manner, your back can be one of the first things to really suffer as you get older. The last thing that you want is to cause any lasting damage that might lead to you having limited functionality when it comes to moving about. 

As you get older, this becomes worse from natural aging, and as a result, you may regret the way you treated your body throughout your twenties, thirties, and forties. Take Care With Your Wrists

Your wrists are something that is important to look after and due to the amount of technology we use nowadays, it can often lead to severe pains and conditions within the wrist. A good way to tackle this is by having wrist supports on the keyboard and mouse mat. This will lift your wrists slightly and into the correct position so that you can work without feeling too much discomfort. This is important when you’re working long hours and have your hands in that position for a long time.

Make Sure You’re Lined Up Properly To Your Monitor

When it comes to your eyes, you want to be looking straight ahead, in line with your monitor. You don’t want to be looking down or looking too far up, otherwise, it’s going to be painful for your neck. It’s a small adjustment but it’s certainly one that will make the biggest difference, especially if you’re someone who has frequent pain or discomfort in their neck area.

If you’re struggling to adjust your monitor, it might be that you need to get what’s called a monitor riser. These just lift the monitor up to where you need it, instead of adjusting the monitor screen or unit itself.

Take Regular Breaks

Regular breaks are really good to keep yourself active and to also allow your body to stretch out. It’s important to do this, otherwise, it can end with your body ceasing up. You might have muscle cramps or stiffness and this isn’t great again for your limbs as you get older. Regular breaks every hour is a good way to start. Take five to ten minutes just to get out of the chair and to make yourself a drink or perhaps take a walk around the block. Getting fresh air can be good for your body when it’s been sat in a chair for an hour or two.

Don’t forget to give your body the breaks it needs and don’t try to push it too much.

Rest Your Feet On The Floor

Resting your feet on the floor is certainly something that you want to do to keep your body in the right position. If your feet are all over the place, then the rest of your body is going to be weirdly aligned throughout the day and this can cause body pain of all variations. Keep your feet placed on the ground where you can.
